Privacy Policy

Introduction

We are committed to protecting the personal data and privacy of all users of Fidei services, including Fidei Email (with calendaring and contact synchronization) and Fidei Chat (secure messaging).

Both Fidei Email and Fidei Chat are designed to collect the absolute minimum data necessary to provide reliable, secure communication services to our users.

The small amount of customer information we do collect is protected by technical and organizational measures that protect your data as best as possible.

Personal Data

All personal data is kept securely by us and protected from unauthorized access.

For All Services

To create a Fidei account, we collect:

  • A backup email address (for account recovery)
  • Your name

For Fidei Email

  • Your chosen @fidei.email address
  • Email messages and attachments you send and receive
  • Calendar entries and contacts you create

For Fidei Chat

  • Your chosen username (handle)
  • Optional display name
  • Optional profile picture
  • Device information necessary for message delivery

Important: Fidei Chat messages are end-to-end encrypted. We cannot read your messages, even if we wanted to (which we don't).

Once an account has been set up, you may optionally add:

  • Full name
  • Address
  • Organization name
  • Phone number

Billing and Payment Information

Fidei does not collect payment data ourselves. All payment data is handled through our third-party payment processors: Stripe (for web purchases) and Apple (for Fidei Chat iOS app purchases).

We use Stripe as our payment processor for web purchases. Their privacy policy may be viewed here. For Fidei Chat purchases made through our iOS app, we use Apple's in-app purchase system.

Data Security

We use reasonable and appropriate physical, electronic, and administrative safeguards to protect Personal Data from loss, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction, taking into account the nature of the Personal Data and the risks involved in processing that information.

All transmission of data to and from our servers utilizes industry-standard encryption. Access to our servers is safeguarded by various industry-standard electronic and administrative mechanisms and is absolutely restricted to only those parties who must have access to provide our services and ensure their reliability.

Family Features and Child Safety

For family accounts, we maintain additional information to support our family safety features:

  • Family relationship structures (who belongs to which family)
  • Account type designations (whether an account is marked as a child account)
  • Family admin permissions

Family admins can mark accounts as "child accounts" for extra safety. Child accounts in Fidei Chat can only communicate with family members, providing peace of mind for parents. These restrictions are enforced at the server level and cannot be bypassed.

Data Portability and Account Deletion

Fidei Email utilizes only open standards, including but not limited to: IMAP/SMTP, CalDAV, and CardDAV. As such, all of your email data is readily portable to other services that utilize the same open standards without explicit permission, knowledge, or approval from us.

Fidei Chat message history remains on our servers while your account is active. This message history is end-to-end encrypted and cannot be read by us. We do not currently offer automated chat export features.

Account Deletion

When you request account deletion, we permanently remove all your personal information including:

  • Your email address, name, username, and all contact information
  • All passwords and authentication data
  • Active sessions and access tokens
  • Email messages and mailbox data
  • Chat history (with the caveat below)
  • Group memberships and invitation links

Important note about chat messages: While your Fidei Chat account and profile are completely deleted, messages you previously sent may remain visible to users who were already in those conversations (similar to how you cannot recall an email already delivered). Your name and profile information will be removed from these messages.

We may retain anonymized financial records for legal and audit requirements, but these contain no personally identifiable information.

Cookies

Beyond technical requirements for establishing a working session on our webmail, contacts and calendar interfaces, we do not use cookies.

Analytics

We do not collect email or chat usage data for the purpose of user behavior analysis.

Our homepage implements basic analytics using a privacy-respecting and open-source tool called Plausible (https://plausible.io/). Unlike many popular analytics packages, ours does not track your behavior outside of our website. The very limited data that we collect is not personally identifiable and is simply used for us to know how many people visit our website and from where. Our analytics does not collect IP addresses at all.
